April 23, 2007 WIC Update

1. Nutrition Education Opportunity: WIC nutritionists and CPAs will want to take advantage of this statewide satellite training - Prevention, Assessment and Treatment in Childhood Obesity: Recommendations from the AMA Expert Task Force on Childhood Obesity. This training via satellite is scheduled for June 6 and available in Cape Girardeau, Columbia, Higginsville, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Platte City, Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis and Troy, Missouri. Participants will strengthen their knowledge of techniques in preventing, assessing and treating patients with childhood obesity. This teleconference will address evidence based information on obesity, present the task force recommendations and discuss implementation techniques in both a community and clinical setting. This training is sponsored by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services. 2. VENA Education Committee: The VENA Education Committee had their first meeting on April 5. The minutes and list of committee members are attached. The committee will be meeting or having a conference call on a monthly basis.
