The H1N1 flu vaccine is not yet widely available. Additional shipments, however, are arriving daily and significant supplies should be available later this month. Please use the map below for information on how to contact your local health department and to find out whether vaccine clinics are planned in your area. Counties in blue have public clinics scheduled. Click on your county and a box will pop up providing contact information and additional links. We will add the location and time of additional public vaccine clinics as they are scheduled.
H1N1 Flu Vaccine
Vaccine manufacturers have notified health officials of a delay in shipments of the H1N1 flu vaccine. The first shipments of H1N1 vaccine are earmarked for high-risk groups such as pregnant women, young children, teenagers and people who care for infants younger than 6 months old. Therefore, the general public may have to wait until mid to late November before the vaccine is readily available.
Check with the local health departments listed on the map below for the availability of H1N1 flu vaccine in your area.
Seasonal Flu Vaccine
So many people received this year’s vaccinations early that supplies of seasonal flu vaccine have been depleted at many public clinics. Significant supplies, however, are still available at many private health care providers. Therefore, please contact your regular physicians or health care professionals to determine whether they have the vaccine available. You can also contact your local health department to find out whether it still has seasonal flu vaccine available. The local health department also may be able to direct you to local providers who have the vaccine available.
Until either flu vaccine is more widely distributed, simple steps are the most effective way to avoid the flu:
- Wash your hands frequently;
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough, and cough into your elbow, not your hands;
- Stay home when you are sick. If you have flu-like symptoms, remain at home until 24 hours after your fever subsides to avoid spreading the virus to co-workers, fellow students or others in the community.
