Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program - Providers
Immunizations
The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is an entitlement program (a right granted by law) for eligible children, age 18 and below. VFC helps families of children who may not otherwise have access to vaccines by providing free vaccines to doctors that serve them.
The VFC Program:
- Provides FREE vaccine to public and private providers, for eligible children.
- Automatically covers vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Saves parents and enrolled providers out-of-pocket expenses for vaccine.
- Discourages the practice of referring children from the private sector to the public sector for vaccination, thereby keeping children in their medical home for comprehensive health care and reducing missed opportunities for vaccination.
The children who can get VFC vaccine are those children age 18 and below who:
- Are eligible for Medicaid
- Have no health insurance
- Are Native American or Alaska Native
- Have health insurance, but it does not cover immunization, AND they go to a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or Rural Health Center (RHC)
