State of Missouri Consensus Screening Guidelines for Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes in a Medical Setting
The Missouri Diabetes Prevention and Control Program promotes the use of these consensus screening guidelines in all medical settings in Missouri. The purpose of screening is to identify persons previously not diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes. To effectively utilize resources, screening efforts should be directed to individuals exhibiting risks for diabetes as outlined in these guidelines. These consensus screening guidelines were developed in 2005 by a work group convened by the Missouri Association of Health Plans Education and Research Foundation. Optimal statewide guidelines for screening and referral for treatment of diabetes was identified by diabetes stakeholders as a high priority when an assessment of Missouri’s diabetes public health system was conducted in 2004.
