Commodity Supplemental Food Program
The Missouri Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to
improve the health of participants by supplementing their diets
with nutritious U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodity
foods. The program is administered by the Missouri Department of
Health and Senior Services (MDHSS) and funded by the USDA.
The population served by CSFP is similar to that served by USDA's
Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women,
Infants, and Children (WIC), but CSFP also serves older persons
(age 60 and above), and provides food
packages rather than the checks that WIC participants receive.
Eligible women, infants and children cannot participate in both
WIC and CSFP at the same time.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS) manages
the food ordering process. The six Second Harvest Food Banks in
Missouri receive, warehouse, and package the commodities. They partner
with local organizations to determine
the eligibility of applicants, distribute the food packages, and
provide nutrition education.
