WIC Basic OrientationTraining

Local WIC Providers

Description:
WIC Staff training is provided to staff through face- to- face training and videoconference sessions. Training provides employees with information regarding the Missouri WIC Program.

Clerical Training is introductory to basic information such as how to: assess income eligibility, complete WIC-1 and WIC-2 certification forms and access policy information in the WOM. General information regarding health and diet assessments, risk factors, WIC foods, nutrition education, and other components of which all WIC staff should possess a basic knowledge is also covered.  All WIC staff are required to complete Clerical Training

Health Professional Assistant (HPA) Training is required for WIC staff who work under the supervision of the Competent Professional Authority (CPA) or Nutritionist and with the certification and recertification process.

WIC Certifier Training is required for all WIC Certifiers and CPA staff (RN, RD or Nutritionist).  Training includes information for Clerical and Health Professional Staff in addition more detail instructions regarding how to identify and assign appropriate risk factors under the supervision of the WIC Nutrition Coordinator. 

Competent Professional Authority Training (CPA) is required for CPA staff (RN, RD or Nutritionist).  Training includes all information covered in Clerical, Health Professional Assistant (HPA) and the WIC Certifier trainings.  More in depth information is provided on nutrition assessment, risk factors, food package assignment, high risk care plans, nutrition education and counseling.

Prerequisites:
The Orientation to WIC module is located in the WOM and must be completed before attending the training session.

WIC Basic Orientation Training and Videoconference Sessions
The schedule below references the dates for WIC Basic Orientation Training for all the different levels of training dependent upon a person's job duties - Clerical, HPA, WIC Certifier and CPA/Nutritionist Training sessions by videoconference, as well as district office availability for broadcast.

Note: Due to the implementation of MOWINS the state office will be changing the way WIC Basic Orientation Training is offered. 

Starting in October 2008 WIC Basic Orientation Training will be conducted as indicated below:

  • Clerical and HPAs will complete self-paced modules.  No videoconference training required.
  • WIC Certifier's will attend a 2-hour training via videoconference in the district office.
  • CPA/Nutritionist  training will be held face-to-face in Jefferson City.   The CPA training will be one-day only from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
