Survey of School Nutrition Policies

Missouri Team Nutrition

The Team Nutrition survey provides a baseline of school nutrition policies and programs in Missouri's 2,000 plus public and non-public schools. The survey also assesses the needs of Missouri schools to create a healthier nutrition environment. All 2,000 plus public schools and 500 plus non-public schools were invited to complete the survey.

Survey results compare the Missouri school environment to national indicators. Best practice guidelines for healthy environments are included in each section. Information is available about:

• Nutrition education,
• Physical education,
• Types and extent of vended foods and beverages,
• Weight screening,
• Nutrition policies addressing class parties, fund raisers, rewards and vended foods,
• Areas for improvement, and
• What schools need to achieve a healthier nutrition environment.

A follow-up survey was conducted at the end of the 2004-2005 school year. Follow-up results will be available soon.
