Radiation Control

Radiology - X-Ray

The Missouri Radiation Control Program (MRCP) is the state agency assigned primary responsibility for carrying out provisions of the Missouri Radiation Protection Law (192.400-192.510, RSMo) and Mammography Systems Law (192.760-192.766, RSMo), including regulation, registration, and inspection of most man-made radiation sources in both medical and industrial settings. This includes both radioactive isotopes (those not regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission) and radiation-producing machines. We work closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for electronic Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) to carry out federal mammography inspections under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). We also work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to certify mobile x-ray providers (that perform radiology studies in nursing homes).
