Pain and Symptom Management
Pain is one of the oldest medical problems and the most universal physical affliction of mankind. It also is one of the most common reasons for people to seek medical attention. Adequate pain management leads to enhanced functioning and increased quality of life. On the other hand, inadequately controlled pain can have such profound consequences as disability, depression and despair. In addition, inadequately controlled pain can increase utilization of healthcare resources. As a result there is a great need for education on pain and symptom management for both patients and healthcare providers.
