The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services announced today updates have been made to regulations concerning the list of controlled substances, the application for registration and the form for reporting losses. The changes will be effective July 30, 2003.
Currently, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs within the department, contains a registry of approximately 23,500 practitioners, pharmacies, hospitals and other entities that have the authority to purchase, stock, dispense, prescribe and administer controlled substances. The Bureau, who oversees the administrative and regulatory oversight of controlled substances for the state of Missouri, has made important changes to their application form and the reporting form for submission of losses and thefts that will enable them to collect more data on the carriers and in-transit losses of controlled substances.
In addition, the Bureau will no longer be issuing a one-year registration, instead physicians in resident training programs will now be required to obtain a full three-year registration at a cost of $90.
Medical personnel should also be aware that the list of controlled substances has expanded. Added to the list are Benzylpiperadine (BZP), 2,5-dimethoxy-4-(n)-propylthiophenethylamine and Triflouromethylphenylpiperazine (TFMPP), all halucinogenics, and Gammahydroxybutyric acid (also known as GHB or Sodium Oxybate), a depressant.
