State Public Health Laboratory
The Missouri State Tuberculosis Laboratory (MSTBL) is a branch
of the State Public Health Laboratory and provides a complete range
of tuberculosis and mycobacterial testing. Capabilities include:
processing AFB smears and cultures, direct specimen testing for
Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and recovery and identification of all
species of mycobacteria. Mycobacterial drug susceptibility testing
is also available. Specimens from any human source may be submitted.
The MSTBL is fully accredited by the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services (CLIA #26D0919251) and subscribes to the proficiency
testing program of the College of American Pathologists (CAP #19492
01 01). MSTBL staff can fulfill most requests for information from
our computer database and experienced mycobacteriologists and laboratory
scientists are available to answer technical inquiries. (Contact
