Training Information
State Public Health Laboratory - Breath Alcohol
Beginning October 1, 2008, Type 3 Operator training must be conducted utilizing the new Department of Health and Senior Service’s Breath Alcohol Program Standardized Type 3 training materials. Training conducted not utilizing the approved materials will result in the training class and the subsequent applications for permits not being approved. The complete policy is available for download below.
The approved standardized materials are available free of charge from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service’s Breath Alcohol Program upon request.
As part of the standardized training materials, a Missouri Breath Alcohol Program Breath Alcohol Operator Manual is now available in electronic format. The Manual will be provided with any request to conduct training and is also available for immediate download below.
You can click on either the Manual or the Policy below and that will open the item in an Adobe Acrobat Format (.pdf). You can then download either and print them for your use.
Another way to download either file is to right-click on the link and then choose "Save Target As...", and then save the .pdf file to any location in your computer.

New Type 3 Training Policy
New Type 3’s still need a minimum of 24 hours, which includes the evidential breath alcohol instrument. For a current Type 3 to change to a different evidential breath alcohol instrument is a minimum 4 hours with a written exam over the new instrument.
As in our earlier training policy, a Type 2 permit holder will need to submit a letter asking for approval to perform the Type 3 training to the Breath Alcohol Program. In the letter you need to include: the location of the class, the type of class (24 hours for new a Type 3 permit or four hours for a new instrument), the dates of the class, instructor(s), and approximate number of students. In addition, you must include a copy of the course outline showing the version of the approved standardized training material being used, as well as the alternate topics covered and the number of hours devoted to each.
You can email the request for training materials or for class approval to the Breath Alcohol Program at: breathalcohol@dhss.mo.gov
