CNA Instructor - CNA Examiner - CNA
Clinical Supervisor - Level I Medication Aide Instructor - Registry Update Form
CNA Instructor
Individuals wanting to be certified as a CNA Instructor must be approved
by the DHSS to attend the train-the-trainer course. This training course
is conducted either by a Long-Term
Care (LTC) Association or the Missouri
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The applicant must meet the following qualifications to become an instructor:
- A Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Missouri or in possession
of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action;
and
- A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience and at least one (1) year experience in provision of LTC facility services within the last five (5) years
The applicant must provide documentation showing these requirements are fulfilled by submitting the following to DHSS/HEU:
- Resume
- Copy of Nursing License
- Copy of Social Security Card (write out number if not legible after copied)
- Address and
- Phone Number (if available)
The DHSS will evaluate and verify the applicant's credentials. The DHSS will notify the individual in writing within seven (7) to ten (10) working days regarding the request.
An applicant must attend the state approved instructor train-the-trainer course. When the individual has successfully completed the course their name will be added to the Department's CNA Instructor Registry. You are responsible for updating your personal information contained on the registry. You may change your personal information by completing the Registry Update form.
Level I Medication Aide (LIMA) Instructor
Individuals wanting to be certified as a LIMA Instructor must attend the train-the-trainer course. This training course is conducted either by a Long-Term Care Association or the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The applicant must meet the following qualifications to become a LIMA Instructor:
- A Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action. If the individual is a LPN, they shall be a graduate of an accredited program which has pharmacology in the curriculum; and
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a LTC facility licensed by the DHSS or the Department of Mental Health, within the last five (5) years or be currently employed by that facility for at least six (6) months.
The applicant must provide documentation showing these requirements are fulfilled by submitting the following to DHSS/HEU:

Individuals wanting to be certified as a CNA Examiner must attend the train-the-trainer
course. This training course is conducted either by a Long-Term
Care Association or the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education.
The applicant must meet the following qualifications to become an examiner:
- A Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Missouri or in possession
of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action;
and
- A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience and at least one (1) year experience in provision of LTC facility services within the last five (5) years
The applicant must attend the state approved examiner train-the-trainer
course and sign an agreement with the Department agreeing to keep the final
examinations secure. When the individual has successfully completed the
course their name will be added to the Department's CNA
Examiner Registry.
There are special stipulations for the CNA Examiner. The examiner must
be qualified to teach the CNA course but cannot be the instructor
of the students who are taking the exam. Also, the examiner must
not be an employee of the facility whose students are being tested. You are responsible for updating your personal information contained on the registry. You may change your personal information by completing the Registry Update form.
CNA Clinical Supervisor
Individuals wanting to be certified as a CNA Clinical Supervisor must attend
the train-the-trainer course. This training course is conducted
either by a Long-Term Care Association or the Missouri Department
of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The applicant must meet the following qualifications to become a clinical
supervisor:
- The individual must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed
Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of
a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action;
and
- At a minimum, have one year of Long Term Care (LTC) experience
or currently employed by a LTC facility; and
- The nurse must attend the state approved train-the-trainer
course.
When the individual has successfully met the clinical supervisor qualifications,
their name will be added to the Department's CNA
Clinical Supervisor
