Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment
When a Show Me Healthy Women client receives an abnormal finding or is 'symptomatic' diagnostic services may be available through special funding from Show Me Healthy Women or through the Missouri Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act (BCCT).*#
In October 2000, federal legislation was signed allowing funded programs in the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) to participate in a new program, the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment (BCCT) Act. In July 2001, Governor Holden signed legislation authorizing matching funds for Missouri to participate in the primarily federally funded Medicaid program. Missouri BCCT went into effective August 28, 2001.
Eligibility for BCCT Medicaid coverage include:
- Women must be under age 65
- Receive a Show Me Healthy Women-paid screening and/or diagnostic service
- Found to need treatment for either breast and/or cervical cancer
As of January 2006, BCCT Medicaid had approved 921 Missouri women for BCCT. Currently, 587 active cases are receiving treatment for breast or cervical cancer diagnosed through Missouri's Show Me Healthy Women.
*If cancer treatment is required it must be provided in state of residence. All states bordering Missouri will accept referrals from the SMHW program into their Medicaid treatment programs.
#Undocumented residents are not eligible for cancer treatment through Missouri’s Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment (BCCT).
