African Americans and HIV/AIDS
Community Connection is a statewide database of community resources
on the World Wide Web. A free public service, it provides an easily
searched, central source for information about a wide variety of
resources available to Missourians. In addition, it provides links
to useful information that can help in evaluating and choosing those
resources.
The purpose of Community Connection is to build capacity-of individuals,
organizations, and communities. It does this by 1) improving access
to community services and resources; 2) helping community resources
reach people 3) enhancing information sharing, referral, and collaboration
among community agencies and resources; and 4) providing information
that helps make informed decisions.
Community Connection includes both public and private, non-profit
and for profit resources, including agencies, organizations, government
units, clubs, associations, schools, churches, businesses, libraries
and others. The intent is to become comprehensive in health, mental
health, education, and human services, but inclusive of all resources.
Certain uses are prohibited.
There are many ways to search for resources and services. Those
with accounts can print or download subsets of information to use
for creating directories, labels, asset maps and other purposes.
Resources can manage their own information from anywhere there is
Internet access. Entering and updating the information is easy --
just a matter of typing text into fields and selecting from menus.
However, User Guides, online help and a toll-free help desk number
are provided. Data entry assistance is available to those without
Internet access. There are no charges to be listed.
Being on the World Wide Web makes information widely accessible
24 hours a day. However, not all individuals -- or service providers
-- have access to the Internet. Community Connection works with
libraries, Extension offices, and other sites to provide public
access to the Internet. In addition, many service providers use
Community Connection to help people find appropriate resources.
Community Connection can be used for information and referral, networking
and collaboration, planning, and asset mapping. The process of implementation,
which utilizes regional team members, local steering committees
and other partners, aids these capacities.
