| 19 CSR 20-20.080 Duties of Laboratories |
The emergency amendment updates the duties of laboratories to include annual reporting of culture and sensitivity testing results. This emergency amendment is necessary for compliance with 192.131.2, RSMo.
SB 1279 was passed in 92 nd General Assembly.
The bill created certain measures regarding mandatory public reporting of specific nosocomial Infections.
An advisory committee was also created to recommend rules and the types of healthcare associated infections that must be reported. The bill also requires laboratories report antibiograms regularly to DHSS. The Advisory Committee recommended that the antibiograms be in the format recommended by the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute. Often laboratories do not remove duplicate culture results from their data, which causes the data to be inaccurate. The national CLSI standards recommend that duplicates be eliminated from the results. This would assure that the data is more accurate and comparable to others.
The data collected is used by DHSS to help monitor resistance trends throughout the state.
Annual antibiograms are required to be reported for all facilities for which the lab provides services and they are required to report within 6 months after the end of the calendar year.
For specific healthcare-associated infections there will be an annual report card that will be available to the public on the DHSS website. The public will be able to compare the data to other hospitals in the state, region or even nationally to facilities of similar size. |
Dr. Ollie Fisher moved to accept the emergency rule.
Dr. Joseph Forand seconded the motion.
The motion to accept the emergency rule passed.
